Health History & Consultation
The first step for a new patient at Sumas Mtn. Chiropractic is to fill out a complete health history. Old injuries, chronic problems, along with any present symptoms are recorded. After reviewing your health history, one of our doctors will meet with you to discuss your problem and determine how you may be helped through chiropractic care. Prospective patients are questioned in detail about past or current symptoms, accidents, or falls, which may have affected their health by causing a misalignment of the spine, or unresolved soft-tissue damage.
In order to determine your specific problem, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition. Next, a complete spinal postural exam, spinal range of motion and necessary orthopedic and neurological tests will be performed. Your doctor will discuss what x-rays, if any, he feels are necessary for your individual case. X-ray is an excellent diagnostic tool for chiropractors, however, not every patient will need x-rays. The information obtained from this examination helps form a total picture of your health for evaluation with chiropractic care.
Your specific condition may require us to request x-rays, CT or MRI to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. Not all cases require x-rays, and it will be explained to you why they may be necessary. Our extensive referral network of Sports Medicine specialists and special imaging facilities helps to avoid long wait lists.
Same Day Treatment
Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, patients will generally be provided with their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft-tissue therapies. All procedures will be described in detail and we always strive to make our patients as comfortable as possible.
Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. We believe in a "team approach" which encourages the patient to be involved in getting themselves better.
Schedule Your Next Appointment
You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete review of the doctor's findings. Future treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.
